John Stoddard is a partner at Dalton & Tomich. He specializes in banking, finance, bankruptcy, and commercial litigation, in addition to the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000 (RLUIPA) and trust clause litigation. John brings nearly thirty years of legal experience to Dalton & Tomich, including roles as litigation manager for a publicly traded finance company, managing attorney, and partner for firms throughout Michigan that represent financial institutions, court-appointed receivers, and bankruptcy trustees.  John particularly enjoys translating and relating his extensive experience in bankruptcy, foreclosure, and litigation to the variety of work handled by Dalton & Tomich.

John received his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Albion College and his Juris Doctor from the University of Notre Dame. Before returning to his native Michigan in 1999, John practiced law in Indiana for several years. He is admitted and actively practices in Michigan and Indiana and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Indiana State Bar Association, American Bankruptcy Institute, and American Bar Association. His cases with published opinions include Bowlby v. NBD Bank, 640 N.E. 2d 1095 (Ind. Ct. App. 1994), In re Cutler, 291 B.R. 718 (Bankr. E.D. Mich. 2003), In re Schmiel, 319 B.R. 520 (Bankr. E.D. Mich. 2005), and Casa Bella Landscaping, LLC v. Lee, 315 Mich. App. 506, 890 N.W.2d 875 (Mich. Ct. App. 2016).

John resides in Plymouth, Michigan and he and his wife are the proud parents of three daughters. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys watching college football and basketball, as well as major league baseball. John also loves to sing and is a member of Measure for Measure, an Ann Arbor-based men’s choral society.
