Detroit—August 12, 2022—Land use, religious land use and zoning, business, and denominational trust law firm Dalton & Tomich is pleased to announce two firm attorneys have been named to the 2022 Michigan Super Lawyers and Rising Stars lists. Super Lawyers uses a patented multiphase selection process with peer nominations, evaluations and independent research to determine who is awarded the Super Lawyers designation.

Daniel Dalton, a founding partner of the firm, has been named a 2022 Michigan Super Lawyer in the category of Land Use/Zoning – an area where he holds a national reputation as a tenacious and strategic litigator. Awarded the Super Lawyer designation numerous times since 2009, Dalton not only works in commercial land use and zoning, but he also hasa masterful understanding of religious denominational splits and property disputes. Throughout the country, he has represented institutions of all faiths in cases related to the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000 (RLUIPA), in addition to local churches seeking to separate from the United Methodist Church and other denominations while retaining their property using denominational trust clauses.

Partner Lawrence Opalewski has again been chosen as a Michigan Super Lawyer Rising Star—a designation granted to no more than 2.5% of attorneys in the state, who are 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less. Selected in the category of General Litigation, Opalewski has been listed as a Rising Star since 2017. He focuses his practice on land use and zoning litigation, including riparian (water) rights, as well as constitutional and civil rights litigation. Mindful of the value of pre-litigation conflict resolution, Opalewski is also certified by the State of Michigan as a civil mediator.
